Support

Support the Project

The Surface Sand Boa Project is an educational, long-term family science project. Support keeps it running long enough to follow the question across generations.

Support helps pay for the animals, observation equipment, housing, food, substrate, cameras, data infrastructure, website hosting, future-generation housing, and other direct project expenses.

This project is not being built as a conventional reptile-breeding business.

Our goal is to learn, document, and keep the project running long enough to follow the question across generations.

What Support Funds

Straight Into the Project

  • Observation equipment
  • Founder animal acquisition
  • Housing and environmental controls
  • Food and husbandry supplies
  • Cameras and data storage
  • 3D-printed project equipment
  • Website and streaming infrastructure
  • Future adult and breeding housing
  • Future hatchling observation housing
  • Veterinary contingency
  • Project documentation and education
Supporter Recognition

Depends on the Platform

Depending on the active crowdfunding platform and its rules, supporter recognition may include:

  • Online supporter wall
  • Name on the project rack
  • Opportunities to name project animals
  • Founder-line sponsorship
  • Project updates
  • Future supporter participation

Any future live-animal placements will depend on applicable law, platform rules, animal availability, welfare, recipient suitability, and safe transportation.

How Your Funding Makes a Difference

This Campaign Funds the Research, Not Rewards.

Every contribution on Experiment.com helps us run the experiment and build the dataset: behavioral data collection, data validation, environmental verification, data storage and processing, statistical analysis, and reproducible methods.

How your funding makes a difference. This campaign funds the research, not rewards. Every contribution builds the dataset. Behavioral data collection measures what the snakes actually do. Data validation makes sure our measurements are right. Environmental verification keeps the experiment comparable. Data storage and processing preserves thousands of hours. Statistical analysis finds out whether differences are real. Reproducible methods let other people test what we find. Phase I result answers the first big question. What will $3,500 answer? Can we reliably identify stable individual differences in voluntary surface activity? Phase I gives us the evidence to decide whether selective breeding should begin.Open the campaign on Experiment.com (opens in a new tab)

Why Experiment.com

Built for science projects

Experiment.com is a crowdfunding platform for research. Backers fund the question, follow lab notes as the work happens, and see the results whether or not they support the hypothesis.

Money Raised for the Project Should Support the Project.

We intend to show where major project funding goes.

Campaign live on Experiment.com

Phase I research is now being funded on Experiment.com.

Every contribution supports the research required to collect, validate, preserve, and analyze the behavioral data generated during Phase I.

The physical project infrastructure, founder animals, observation rack, cameras, website, and other long-term project equipment are being funded separately.

We will document how research funding is used and publish what we learn, including results that do not support our hypothesis.
